As a way to encourage more parent involvement in the PTO, this year we are trying to have some of the teachers help us out. We have a Pre-K through 6th grade school and we wanted to develop a club that meets during the PTO meetings for the kids to give back. What we are trying to do is have the kids bring the parents and help out the community at the same time. We figure that at the end we can hold an award night to celebrate how our students gave back. We have thought of doing a school beautification project (planting bulbs), Operation Happy Sock (making cat toys for the local animal shelter with a sock, fluff and catnip), having the kids put together thank you cards and care packages for the military, having the kids participate in freerice.org, but we have a small budget and we don't want to overlook any local ideas. We want a project that is open to all of the different ages of the students and that wont take more than an hour. Please let me know if you have any ideas or ideas on what to call our new club. Our first meeting is less than a month away. Thanks.
