Our school has been having a Talent Show for years...it is one of the highlights of the year. It is not a fundraiser, just a fun event, so we don't charge admission and we don't award prizes. We do sell candy, snacks and drinks during intermission.
Our acts vary from individual (singing, piano, dance, Irish dance, etc) to group (siblings, frinds, classes, etc.) performing. We hold a daytime performance for the whole school. Recently, the teachers started participating in a surprise act for the daytime performance...the kids go wild. We also hold a nighttime performance. We limit the acts to between 2 - 3 minutes and each child should participate in no more than 2 acts (with some exceptions.)
There is a parent coordinator for each act. Depending upon the act, the parents are involved with choreography, staging, etc. It sounds more official than it is.
We have a few opportunities for the acts to practice on stage before the big event. It is a lot of work, but the end result is fantastic.
We are trying to put together a talent show, our school is very young (this is year 3) and I would like to do something that would get a lot of people together to interact.
Does anyone else do a talent show? Do you have any suggestions? What do you do for prizes/trophies? Do you have an entry fee to cover costs? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
