Ideas for a Family Dinner Night

To JMUS29 or actually anyone who has done the spaghetti dinner!:
Can you tell me how the whole event was set up? As far as serving? Did you have people serving plain pasta and then the crock pots set up at the end for people to choose? I have been wanting to do this and it seems like a huge undertaking. I was also thinking of getting some local restaurants to donate a pan of pasta with sauce too. Thanks

We had great success with a baked potato bar. We had alocal restaurant donate the potatoes and we had parents donate various toppings:cheese, onions, sour cream, bacon bits, etc.Several of the dads brought crock pots of chili and our bakers made pies cookies, etc. It was all-you-can-eat and was a huge hit! Now an annual event in the fall.

Texas Roadhouse is a great local restaurant that will do Family Fun nights (fundraiser nights) to help raise money for your school. Just contact the local marketing person for your store location.....Legendary food, legendary service, and what a great way to make some extra cash for your school.....

Have a Chili Cook off. This is something every Dad would want to get involved with. or even a salsa making contest. My kids were watching some show on the only channel my TV has, Disney, and the kids school had a salsa contest and my kids were begging my wife to do this. We just finished a salsa fundraiser and they are in that mode.

At a previous school, we hosted a dad and child cake decorating contest. The child brought in an un-iced cake and the icing, etc. Then the Dad and the child had a limited amount of time to decorate the cake. There was a silent auction while everyone enjoyed the potluck dinner. Of course, some people bought their own cakes, but some were bid on by others. It was all in fun and the kids had a great time and felt very proud of their decorating.

Regarding Pizza Night we have a Board member who contacted a local pizza shop owner and he donates all pizza to the school. Do you or a group member have a connection with a shop owner? If they won't donate maybe they could give them to you for their cost. We also contact local grocery stores and they donate 25.00 gift cards to us and we purchase cookies and large bags of salad to serve as well.
