We have done this for 3 years now. Each year we have a greater response to it. Our kinder teachers love it because the parents won't hang out in class. We give free raffle tickets for a school spirit shirt and school book bag. Also, we have sign up sheets for volunteers and memberships. We have the principal read a inspiration story. We also let parents ask any question that they may have. It is actually one of the events I enjoy alot.
We offered this last year-- thought it would be a great way to get new kindergarten parents involved-- needless to say we had a terrible turn-out-- most just wanted their first day of freedom to themselves-- some went out to breakfast, some hard to work and otehr just went home....
We ended up with 3 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon-- good learning experience-- so we have changed things this year to be a welcome back 1st PTO meeting-- with a special invitation to the new kindergarten parents-- that way they will of had a week of school before coming in to a meeting and we're hoping with a personnel invitation, we might get more to come out and see what we're all about--
Hi, we have done it for the last two years at our school and have gotten great feedback from our families. We do coffee and pastries, bagels and fruit. We hold it on the first morning after they drop their children off and it lasts maybe an hour total. Last year we also gave out magnets with the school name , address and phone numbers which we purchased inexpensively at Vista print. You can design your own. We also told them a bit about TPA and collected email addresses for news and handed out CORI forms for potential volunteers. The parents seemed to really enjoy it.There is a flyer in the file section here on the site.If you have any other questions feel free to email me at This email address is being protected from spambots.
