We do something similar at our school during Black History Month. We invite many volunteers to come to our school to read to our children. We have news anchors, athletes, city councilmen, school board members, etc. We call it "Guest Readers Day". It is a very wonderful event.
I just thought I would share an event that we planned and held this week at our school. Because it was such a hit, and very easy to plan, AND didn't cost a dime.
We invited 20 community volunteers from different businesses in the area to come and spend time in classrooms reading and sharing information about their careers. We had a policewoman, an assemblyman, ambulance crew, amry recruiter, bank employees, two veternarians, the superintendant of the district, a boy scout leader, employee from the museum and many more!
The teachers loved it, the kids loved it and it too barely any effort! Please if you can try it at your school!
