We couldn't add extra recess or give out a no homework pass- that would be overstepping our boundaries as a PTO. And our Principal wouldn't allow it anyway. But we did do a trip to the Treasure Box and the kids loved that-- we also are doing fresh popped popcorn while they are watching one of their classroom movies. Let us know what you come up with.
At our school the kids LOVE extra recess or no homework passes (parents love that one, too!). Also lunch with the principal or assistant principal go over well as incentives for things like this.
We do a prize- treasure box, where the winning class gets a trip to the prize box-- the kids loved that-- we also had a special pj day and king and queen for a day where the whole class that won wore crowns all day-- got these free from Burger King-- Also a class ice cream party-- ice cream donated from a local Hershey ice cream store-- the kids made sundaes with all the toppings-- this didn't cost much, we were able to use the leftovers from our ice cream social that we had earlier in the year. Dave and Busters if you have one in your area- gave certificates for a free kids meal and a $5.00 power card to play games there and win additional prizes-- and they gave like 200-- so we did this twice and 1 upper ele. (3-5) and 1 lower ele(K-2) won.
We also started giving out the prizes and announcing the winning classes during our monthyl assembly-- this really hyped up the kids-- We had no idea how much this really excited the kids until we did it-- the class that would win would cheer like crazy and everyone clapped for the winners...Good luck!
This month for my Box Top prize I am giving a Tailgate party in a box to the winning class. I will put in Box Top items such as bugles, Pop secret, fruit roll ups etc with some juice. I sent home football collection sheets in honor of superbowl. Another thing I did was give the winning class a box of KUDOS bars. I bought a large box at Sam's Club for abouit 10.00. The kids loved it! Kudos to you for being the winning class. Sometimes surprisingly the little things cause the most excitement. Good Luck!
Thanks everyone for such great ideas. We used to have a Papa Johns local, but not anymore. That is a great price. We'll have to check around to see if other pizza places do that.
