we also did a polar express night.. We had Santa waiting outside the auditorium after the movie was over... so as not to distract the movie.
we put the bells on thin red cord, and then we hung them all on a pole ( like a broom stick) and 2 elves held the stick horizontally ( like a limbo stick) while they stood next to Santa. a 3rd elf would slide those bells off one at a time and hand it to Santa, who then handed it to the child.. it made the line go much faster, as we had well over 200 kids.... no tangled ribbons in baskets!
We did this two years ago and it was a great time! We had volunteers serve the cocoa/chocolates wearing white shirts and chefs hats. Also, all of the children came dressed for the event in their pajamas
You might also want to check local crafts stores. We have a Michaels and JoAnn Fabrics here and they both are willing to donate or discount purchases from non-profits. You never know unless you ask.
We are trying to put together a Polar Express night this year at the school. We are planning on showing the movie, serving hot chocolate and cookies, and at the end of the movie Santa will come and give each child a bell. Any suggestions on where to purchase the jingle bells from at a reasonable price? Also, has anyone done a Polar Express night that can give me some advise or suggestions.
