We do 2 movie nights per year... We try to show G rated movies, which is what our principal wanted as well. It's a little hard sometimes though. Now a days the classics don't bring in the kids to the Movie night because they have it at home, new releases work best--- but we also send a flier home promoting the movie with the rating so parents have the choice not to participate, this takes care of any potential problems that might come up about the movie.
We do our best though to find G rated though since we are showing the movie to K-5 and younger siblings.
We are doing a movie night next year, we found a great vendor and already checked their credentials. The name of the company is funflicks.com. If you call or email them they replied quickly and had all the information I needed.
I use the website screenit.com as my screening tool for movie selection. In a nonjudgemental way, it analyzes movie content for all of the things that might be objectionable to parents in a movie. When we want to choose a movie, I print off the reports from screenit.com and we then present the report to the principal with our request.
We showed "Flushed Away" recently, a PG movie with no language issues. There were no objections.
Hi,
We solved this problem by having 2 movie nights. At one we show a G movie and it is up on the field. The second later in the year is in the auditorium and is a PG, which we widely advertise as being a PG, so parents can decide if they want to bring the little ones or not. We showed How to Eat Fried Worms and hid sour worms in the popcorn. Great fun!!!
For movie night, we always try to show the movie that has just come out on DVD -- hopefully to show it and get the crowd before everyone runs out to buy it. Last year we decided to show the last Harry Potter movie. We put a disclaimer on the bottom of our backpack flyer so that parents can make the proper decision for the children. As with all our movie nights, the audience was mostly the K-2 crowd, not the 3-5 crowd. Basically our MO is that we leave it to the parents to make the right decision for their child.
