Yup, that's a Home Depot Night - our first one is next week. We call it "Build with Him Night", encouraging dads to come with their kids.
Our local Home Depot gives 75 kits FREE and an apron for every child. The crafts we have displayed look most appropriate for grades K - 3, and the stool is in the shape of a heart so you need to be prepared to buy more "boy" kits from Toys R Us if needed. Our Home Depot provides 6 volunteers and 10 hammers. We provide the rest. Our committee found space and # of tables to be the limiting factor, not the interest.
Our PTO is charging $2.00/kit and providing a pizza supper with the money, as well as paint, brushes, hammers (engrave them!), etc. It's a break-even event that focuses on involving dads.
If anyone has ideas to make our night go smoothly, please speak up! Tammy
I don't know if this is the same thing, but I've been to several events where Home Depot has provided very easy kits for kids to build things. They have planters, race cards, periscopes, bird houses--stuff like that. In some cases, Home Depot has also provided personnel to help with the building, but each kit comes with directions, and they are not difficult. You only need a few basic tools, like hammers and screwdrivers. I have no idea if Home Depot charges for these kits, or just donates them. Might just want to ask at a local Home Depot store and see what they say.
