Has anyone had parking issues? We are a k-8, with about 1600 students, and tried our first goodies with grandparents during our lunch time. We thought it would be okay since lunch shifts run from 10:15-1:15. Unfortunately, our parking area is so small that some of our grandparents had to walk almost a block to get to us (did I mention we're in Florida and grandparents' day is in Sept. - verrrry hot). We wanted to try donuts with dads, but are afraid again of worse parking now that we have more portables in our grassy parking area. Any suggestions?
We had our first Donuts with Dad and it was awesome thanks to our chairperson and all of her hard work. She got a good deal on donuts from our walmart. She also served Tang (much more affordable and discounted from our grocery store)and coffee. There was a donut table with moms to serve them and a beverage table also with mom helpers. She had games set out on all the tables for kids and dads to play and a photo area. She hung a tablecloth for a backdrop with a banner that said Donuts with Dad 2006 and took digital photos. Later she did a giant collage of the pics which will go home when moms come for Muffins with Mom. She also did preprinted name tags (we had RSVP forms) and they signed a ticket to enter the raffles. Items(like gift cards etc left from our basket raffle night) were given away thru out the morning.
I'd suggest you spread the food throughout the room. Our first time out, we had a single buffet table and most people spent the whole time in line for their donut and drink.
Next year we put the donuts on the tables. BUT there weren't enough tables/chairs for everyone and the people who didnt' get them were uncomfortable reaching onto the plates on other people's tables. So now we'll just put out about 6 or so tables on the edges of the room, probably in the corners and stuff and they'll be mini buffet lines.
Kelly, we JUST had our first one and it was very successful. I actually had never heard of it until I read about them on these boards. I would start by suggesting that you do a search on these boards for " donuts with dads".. I just checked for you, I got close to 50 hits, and i stopped the search.
Take some time and read all of those posts, and then come back and ask specific questions that would pertain to your school! There are LOTS of great ideas, but each school is so unique.... I'll chack back in with you in a bit!
Hi, I am planning a Dads and Donuts at our school, and have never been to one. I am looking for any successful ideas that anyone has to share. Thanks in advance for the help.
