One thing we do at our events is to make it clear that kids are not allowed to be "dropped off", that an adult is required for attendance. All announcements/flyers have it stated somewhere very noticable. This helps with crowd control (the parents can do that) and it helps get the parents involved too.

Thanks! If I could use duct tape, I think I'd use it on the parents first! One of the things I'm concerned about is the lack of parental involvement at these events. I'd really love to find a place where the kiddos can have fun, and the parents would stay. I'm working with 5th graders and am shocked at how much "independence" they give their kids. But I'm also worried about "crowd control"!
I'm really anxious to see what other great ideas are out here.

Hi! I've recently been elected to chair our group's "Special Events". For the past 4 years this has consisted of 3 "skate nights". Apparently, attendance has fallen off and I'm looking to rev up student and parent involvement in these events. I'd like to try something different but I need imput from your collective experience.
Any ideas for different venues? I'm assuming these special events are basically for the kids to get out and for the parents to have a night off (which I aim to change)
And also, this is a new school for me.. the area that I came from had a k-5 enrollment of 372. MY new school has a 5-6 grade enrollment of 1012. So my challenge is 2-fold: great new venue and how to control it for such a large group. ANY ideas would be welcome. Thanks so much!!!
