Same with us--we do not post class lists. The office does that right before our open house, the night before school starts. Like GAmom, we also disseminate class list information to room parents after school starts and only after receiving permission from parents who want to be contacted.
We don't post class lists either, but we do include a copy of the class list in our room parent folders. The list includes the child's name, the parents names, home and work numbers and address. However, in the packets the students get on the first day of school, we send out a form asking permission for the info to be given out to the room parent. If they do not want to share it, we black them out on the list and make a note for the room parent to not contact these parents by phone--only thru bookbag mail.
Our PTO has nothing to do with the class assignments/postings. I'm pretty glad that is the case as I wouldn't care to be a part of the bees nest. As to how our Principal does it, she does not allow you to request a teacher except for Kindergarten. After kindergarten she will take written input from you as to your child's strength, weaknesses etc and consider that in placement so that she can balance out the class size/structure. It seems to work out pretty well. Class assignments are posted 30 minutes prior to open house/orientation.
Just curious how your PTO groups go about posting class lists identifying who has what teacher and who the classmates are....any ideas? This is a sensitive topic at our school and we are looking new ways of disseminating the information.
