Well we had a terrific family dinner dance last Friday night. We had 590 people attend (well that was the reservation number) and served a pizza and a soda per person. There was a silent auction that did a lot of "teacher" type events, school sleepovers, cooking class at home given by yours truly, and then the music started and the kids just had a ball. This was all to benefit our music department and they made about 3,500 dollars. The PTO assisted with the leg work and I really like the idea of having the different departments do fundraisers for themselves to keep themselves current. I'm trying now to convince the computer tech to have a 3 day tech camp once school lets out. We've gotten grants for our art department and our PE class has been "adopted" 2 years running. The old "teach them to fish" adage is really paying off.
Anyway-this is a low cost, high energy event...just had to pay for a better sound system (the music teachers hubby is a former DJ) and the kids were taught line dances the week before so it was all very structured (down to the prinicpal approving the music selections to ensure no break down in decorum) and I mean we didn't see our boys for the majority of the night. So give it a try and see how it works for you guys!
