Do you have any girl scout troops at your school? This would be a great place to find suggestions. They hold a Thinking Day every year and the topis is cultural. Each troop is responsible for a different area of the world, foods and activities. They just held this years event in February, so ideas would still be fresh in their minds.
Alot of this would depend on several things. How many classrooms do you have? Can each classroom study a culture and do a presentation about it? Is there to be some kind of assembly where each class could do their presentation? Do you have to supply a lunch for all the students? Is there a commons area, a lobby, cafeteria, or gym that can be decorated with student art that relates to a particular culture?
Our elementary school has been selected to host a one day cultural diversity program thru a local college. Our parent group is in need of ideas for decorations, activities to keep children busy during breaks and general comments on how to host over 150 college students in the best way possible for an entire school day.
