Ask some of your friends to join you. You have a few months before school ends. Start talking with other parents about what they want for next year and slip being an officer into the conversation. I got in because I wanted to make a difference. I hadn't planned on being an officer but I always had something to say. The principal nominated me and I've been at it ever since (3yrs). This is my last year. Put flyers around the school saying the positions are opened and hopefully someone will try it. Wishing you the best.
We are having the same problem. The pres. is leaving and nobody is interested. Actually all the officers are leaving this year. I am a K mom nominated for the pres. yet I have no idea what a PTO president does! We need new board members.
You may want to look at new people coming in for September. Also look around at events, is there someone that appears to be a good leader? At the end of last year we knew a new treasurer would be needed come September. During a major year end fundraiser we had a Dad sign up who was an accountant by day. At the end of the event we asked him about being treasurer, he gave it some thought and said yes. The lesson here is he did not even know PTO’s had treasurers. He loves it and does a great job. Best news is his kids will be in the schools for years to come!
Being that we are now in March are there that many activies that are going on or is it possible for the Secretary and Treasurer to just cruise until nominations and the election? We lost our Secretary early this fall and a teacher stepped up to help us out. Is that an opt?
My first year President I learned I was pregnant when school started and watched half my board dissapear! Somehow I lucked out and a couple moms helped me out so by March (baby born in April) I could really just be in auto drive. Not how you shuld do things but that was the best I could do. My "baby" will be four in a few weeks and I'm having another go at being President.
