You have to have a license to show any movies to a group that is not private (like your family). You have to do this even if you don't charge for movie night, we found out. It has to do with copyright laws. We just got our license for the year and the teachers agreed to pay for it out of the money that the PTO gives to them each year since it benefits them too and they can now show movies in class. We were doing this for a while without the license but were told we really should get it to avoid future problems. The cost is based on your school size, I believe ours was $375 also and we can show just about any movies.

I don't understand this is the first time our school is going to do a movie night. Why do you have to have a license>?

We purchased a one-time license last year $50. This year since we're hosting 3 movie nights we purchased the yearlong license $375 (student body of 700). This covers as many movie nights as we decided on and the school for showing movies throughout the year as well. We do sell popcorn, water, pickles & candy during our movie nights with the hopes of breaking even for the cost of the license and snacks. We don't charge admission. We have our first on of this year this Thursday. We can only show rated 'G' movies in accordance with our School District policies.

Remember, you must purchase the license rather you charge admission or not.

Good luck to you,
Holly

If you get the liscence for a one time night its only $50-75. If you get the yearly liscence the fee is a couple hundred depending on the school size.

:D There was a post WAAAAY back, when I was younger about Movie nite licenses. I thin the prices where pretty reasonable (at least in my misery mind).

I think there were even 2 or 3 options.

Time to go searching, so maybe I can find that link and my mind.

Do you purchase a license? I woould love to do this but the cost of a license it a bit much for our little budget!

Now that we have a screen in the new auditorium...be cool to use it! :D

Oh Shawn... of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most! Good thing the kids are smart!
