Hello to all!! A few more ideas for a family fun day or carnival. Weather permitting, a dunk tank is a great way for kids to get revenge on the teachers or principle. We also may have a silly string the principle game. A great time for families, but also a great way to make a little money for the PTO. We are looking at charging to get in, and possibly charging for a few of the big things, like the dunk tank & the silly string. Also, talk to your high school art program. They may be willing to send down a few students to volunteer to do face painting. And, go to your local fast food restaurants. They are usually willing to give coupons to give out as prizes, or to any volunteers. Thanks

We are in Henderson, NV a suburb of Las Vegas! Not rural at all! LOL We do have our county fair in April in a rural town about an hour away. It's very fun. They have 4-H, etc., there, but not really around our metro. area. I am going to contact the couple dairies and see what they have to say.

I appreciate your input!

Hay! I mean...Hey! I just thought of something else. Look into your local "Dairy Princess" or "Dairy Maid" program. If you have one like ours, they are more than willing to come in and give out info and trinkets that encourage kids to eat/drink dairy products. I'm thinking that our County Fair Queen would probably like the photo op, too. Check with your Extension Agent to see which programs are available in your area.

pottsville, I will never look at another hay bale the same way again!

I think you can purchase straw bales at craft stores sometimes. I don't know how costly they are.

Involving the 4-H and FFA in your county would be great...if you have one. My son is the part of the 4-H that does crafts, recipes, and projects. He has a birdhouse he made that is going to the state fair. Woo hoo. Anyhow you could have a booth set up to display projects the kids have made. That would be a great way to display their talents.

You could also display farm equipment and have someone to do a safety talk about them, or tell how the machinary works. The same with the animals. If you can't get any animals there perhaps you can get dairy farmers, chicken barn owners, horse trainers, etc to come and for the kids to ask questions.

Be careful of the hay bales. We used to bring some into the school for decoration and got a copperhead as a bonus!

Now, all our hay bales stay outside.
