We did this this year. We had classical music playing over the PA system, and had the kids' artwork tacked up in the lower elementary wing of our school. The kids in the art club were the docents, and they dressed all in black. We served "wine" (grape juice & 7-Up) in plastic stemmed wine glasses, and had cheese & crackers as well as donated cookies on silver serving platters.
We invited the school board and community leaders along with the parents/families of the students. It was a really nice evening. We only made about $120 on the artwork, but it was a great social event.
There are a few area schools that hold student art auctions and have a night where parents can come in and view the projects their kid's and their classes have produced. They can be anything from ceramic items, paintings, to birdhouses, tables, chairs, etc. Teachers and students play music, read poetry, enjoy refreshments, etc. I'm wondering if anyone else in the Forum has experienced this sort of event and what types of activities they included and if they have any advice. We are hoping to add the event to our calendar next year.
