How about someone teaching dances like line dances or swing...something easy. The dinner recommendation was good! What about a room with various instruments and you get to try them out. This could be a good introduction for the orchestra/band instructor. You could play name that tune set up with groups.
I don't know the ages of hte children that would be coming, but if you have little ones, musical chairs is an old time favorite. Hot potato would work too. I think it could be cute if you could get the organizers and helpers to dress the part - 50's 60's etc. Older kids love to do the macarena,a nd the electric slide 1 and 2.
It sounds like a really fun night, I wish you good luck with it. Let us know how it turns out!
Any way you could add in some kind of dinner? That really works for us if mom gets out of cooking and a fun night out it is always better for us. We often do a pizza or hot dog kind of thing and the parents pay for this, not the PTO but parents love it!
We're planning a family night around music...we plan to have fun 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s music playing as well as Karaoke. We're doing a "Twister Tournament" in the Media Center (4 twister mats, one spinner) and a Limbo Contest. We're also doing theme baskets (asking each grade level to pick a theme and run with it).
Any other fun group games we can do? I expect the Karaoke will be the biggest hit...we hope we can get some parents and teachers into it too.
Our PTO has had a rough go of it the last couple years and we are working hard to build the trust of our families and bring a sense of community back into our school.
