Thank you for suggesting this! I tried the last two years to say this was a good idea but was shot down by other board members. Hearing you think its a good idea gives me more confidence in myself and how I can handle going into this new chapter
Try sending a survey to your members asking to let you all know why they are unable to attend. It may be because the time doesn't work (they work during the day and wish for evening meetings; or they don't work outside the home and want 9am meetings). Maybe childcare is holding them back. Make it enticing with a door prize (if allowed), or ask teachers, "If your student's parent attends the meeting, will you give that student a homework pass?" Ask and accommodate as much as possible, but keeping in mind you can't please everyone. When in doubt, announce that you'll bring snacks. People always show up for food!
I've been involved in PTO for over four years now and will be taking over as President. Here's my major dilemma. Absolutely NO parents show up for any of our meetings! Any suggestions on how to change this and get them to care and want to help?
