We have two room parents per classroom. They are supposed to sit down with the teacher at the beginning of the year and let them know they are here to find volunteers (for field trips, snacks for testing, reading help if kids need it, etc). Our room parents also plan all classroom parties (valentines Day, holiday/Winter parties, etc). Room parents set up, coordinate and serve at these parties as well. They pay special attention to children having allergies too. Ultimately I would love to see the room parents send a note home telling parents who they are and why they will be calling on them.
Our PTA would like to start a room parent program next year but we have never had one and don't really know what kind of responsibilities room parents usually have. Would love to hear what other schools have their room parents do.
