Okay I just joined and don't want to sound like a broken record but have you taken a look at SchoolCollabo? They took the whole concept of the blog, improved it specifically for the PTA and made creating a PTA website as easy as writing an email. The best part we like about it is it's free. I joined this because I found people don't know where to go to get technology and this program really is the cats meow. They are taking over our school district and I'm really kinda proud we were the first school. Yay!

Oh and did I mention it was free? Real easy on our budget :D We even take membership and payments (like class funds, teacher appreciation, etc) through it and add a convenience fee so that we can use it for a silent fundraiser for our parents.

Hi. Our high school band desperately needed a new website several years ago. The one they had wasn't being updated and didn't offer many capabilities.

I created our band website 3 years ago using my-pta.org. It is FREE! We have the ability to create volunteer events so parents can click to sign up and they will receive an email reminder they volunteered 1 day before and a thank you the day after. It also automatically keeps track of your volunteer hours; you can upload documents, clip art, photo galleries, calendars, and complete email service and more. ALL FOR FREE.

We also use their E-Commerce and created a "Store" so folks could pay for items online w/ a credit/debit card. The great thing we like with E-Commerce through my-pta.org is that we can select who pays the convience fee; us or the buyer.

You can select your website template looks and then customize them from there. There are several tutorials you can click on to learn how to manage your website.

The only thing I would have to say is their support service is slow, otherwise for all the things we can do with our website that is free we are very please.
Feel free to take a look at our website, I will try to add a link.

Hi amditta,

I'm passing along links to a community discussions on this topic as well as an article on our site. This can give you some good information to determine what might work best for your school.

Create a PTO website that works:
www.ptotoday.com/pto-today-articles/arti...o-website-that-works

Do you maintain your own website?
www.ptotoday.com/boards/21-day-to-day-pt...ain-your-own-website

We wouldn't promote a particular web hosting service, but you might want to take a look at this resource from PC Magazine that has current reviews of top web hosting services: www.pcmag.com/category2/0,2806,2269,00.asp

Good luck!

I am wanting to start a website for our PTO, I want to give all our information, committee information and links to websites we suggest, calendars, event listings, and volunteer sign up. We would really like a free site because our school will not pay for it and we are not a separate pto. I am willing to pay for it personally if it didn't cost a lot but I prefer free. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about this? Should I do a website and then something like volunteer spot or should I have the volunteer stuff within my website? I am clueless on how or where to go for websites so any help & sites to try would be a great help.

Background: My school is a small catholic private school. Our school website is maintained by the church and created and maintained by a volunteer parish member. Bad part is it does not work correctly at all and the school cannot update information in a timely manner and the church is not real concerned so PTO and teacher pages on our site cannot be updated regularly and is not an option for us.

Thanks in advance
