Thanks so much. But access to a computer to log in is a problem. There isn't anywhere at school that parents can log in. I suppose they could do it from home - but I can't forsee much sucess with that!
I know you said don't suggest computers, but there is an online volunteer tracking system where parents can log their hours (the basic plan is free) - it's called OurVolts and the website is www [dot] ourvolts [dot] com It's not a software that you have to download, you just log in the way that you log in to post on this site. Just a suggestion!
That is basically what we are doing - keeping track of who volunterred. The students get paw prints (our student reward system) for their parent's participation. Plus we are trying giving them goody bags for participation at events. We not only track events but also the time they come and read to the class, help copy and all the other things parents do at our school. We are trying to get everyone who volunteers and tracking the hours is just a handy way to do ths. We also give the class with the most hours of parent participation per 6 weeks free food coupons. At the end of the year, the class with the most parent participation gets a pizza party.
I am curious why you want to keep track? I think the events themselves are proof of volunteer commitment. I think it is more important to keep track of who volunteered so you can thanks them properly : )
We just started tracking the number of hours of parent partcipation this year and I like to know how we compare to other schools. We have around 450 students in a rural community and had 2579 hours of RECORDED parent involvement this school year. I'd love to hear from other schools our size and maybe share some ideas on how you make it easy to track these hours (don't suggest using a computer, not an option for us).
