Sorry to hear that you don't have parents willing to fill the board positions yet. Finding a venue to let families know what the PTO does as is a great idea. My only concern is that this is such a busy time of year. If you promote it as a PTO information session, I fear (sadly) that you won't get parents to attend. Could you talk to the principal or school counselor and see if there is a topic you could combine your info session with, in hopes of drawing a bigger crowd? You know how in marketing they say to focus on the benefit rather than the feature when you are selling something? Perhaps you could do something along the lines of how to set your child up for school success ... a teacher or counselor could talk about ways parents can develop good habits at home and you could talk about how volunteering benefits your child (see article links below). Another option would be to have the night focus on transitions. Have the school counselor talk about how to help your child with transitions and the PTO can talk about how volunteering helps parents stay connected to school so they can be on top of what's going on and it's also creates a great support system for parents. However you promote your information session, I would suggest sending the flyer or email to local preschools as well.
We have many current PTO officers who will not be running for next year. The issue is at our Primary school we have no one who is interested. To get the word out and really bring it to the parents attention we're hosting in conjuntion our Primary and our Intermediate to inform parents what PTO does and responsibilities.
I am looking for ideas on the format that might be helpful. What to call it. What kind of questions and answers to have in place that kind of thing.
