Help!! No one shows up to meetings!

For our last meeting, we offered a free "hat day" for any of the students parents that attended. We are going to do a free "homework pass" for the next meeting.

I think we have all been there at one time or another. We have excellent volunteer involvement at our school, but not many would show up for meetings. So last year, we started to have a drawing. We do a $25.00 gift card drawing for Walmart. It seemed to help boost our attendance! Maybe just an idea. I am always open to others ideas! Good luck!

Well, Barbara pretty much said it all (and well said, I might add).

Try not to get discouraged. Are people coming forward to help out with events? If they are not, then that is a bigger problem. Have you tried doing the 2-hour Power Pledge yet? It's a great way to jump-start volunteerism.

It sounds like you are doing a good job communicating - keep up the good work. Here are a few more communication tips that may help:

I honestly don't have a "good" suggestion on ways to help solve this problem. I couldn't stand that no one had responded yet either. I FULLY understand how frustrating it is having been there/done that! We have experienced it, although not to that extent, for years. We have had guest speakers, connected meetings to school performances, offered childcare, moved the date/time, etc. None of which were solutions... so I can sympathize.

The past couple of years board meetings have improved, and we are drawing in new people, but it has taken a lot of breaking away from the "we have always done it this way" mold and has been a VERY slow process. General/Annual meeting(s) are still rough though, although I have hope, from the last few meetings that we are on the right track, just a matter of keeping the momentum going.

Here are a couple of links that might be helpful:

Put Meetings in Perspective

And what has been most useful to me was Tim's recent blog (or at least recent to me!) about putting meeting attendance and the true importance of it.

Good Luck!

At our last PTO meeting, only 3 people showed up and my husband and I were 2 of them. We send out flyers, email blasts and we have information posted on when the meetings are going to be and what is going to be done at the next meeting. Are there any suggestions on how to get more people to attend?
