This year is the first year we are doing something everyday.

Monday is breakfast , catered by Mr. Omelette, paid for by the pta

Tuesday is lunch day, subway sandwiches

Wednesday is baked goods Day.

Thursday is Snack Day.

Friday is Awards Day. The students do poems, dances, songs, etc. for the teachers.

We received some money from the PTA, parents tributed $5.00 or more and we went to the banks, businesses in the neighborhood and got money and products from them. We went to the $1.00 store and brought little items and have volunteers walking around to the classrooms giving water snacks to teachers. We have a word for each day that the teachers have to try and figure out and by the clues. Teachers have a chance to earn a raffle ticket each day for a drawing to be held on the last day. The prizes are coupons to area restraunts, spa's movie tickets, all which were all donated. jc

WE plan a week of meals.

Monday- Coffee bar we provide danishes & muffins.

Tuesday- We provide catered sandwiches & beverages and ask parents to bring sides & desserts.

Wednesday- No school for us

Thursday- We provide Catered Fruit trays, we ask parents to bring Appetizers, Salads & Desserts.

Friday-Dessert Day

We made personal invitations for the staff and one day the teachers will all have a small gift in their mailboxes thanking them for staying on task all year.

We got burned out doing a thing every day last year, so we're cutting back to just a luncheon this year, plus recess coverage the whole week (and doing other things spread out during the year). We get a few parents to watch the playground -- got to get good ones, though, who aren't shy about speaking up and stopping the kids from stepping over the line.

We did a daily theme last year. I am going to change it a little for this year. We tried to make it easy for each child to do somthing and that didn't cost much or have to cost anything. Below is information we sent out in a flyer last year:

National Teacher Appreciation Week
May 4-10, 2008

Celebrate Southwood Teachers

Monday, May 5th, 2008 - Theme: Healthy Start Because We Care (Fruity Day)

·Children are encouraged to bring a piece of fruit to their teacher to give them a healthy start for the week.
·PTA organizing muffins and coffee to be available for all staff first thing in the morning. Volunteers needed to provide muffins and coffee and to setup before teachers arrive.

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 - Theme: You Make This Word A Brighter Place (Inspirational Day)

·Children write notes or make cards for their teachers to let them know how much they are cared about and appreciated.

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 - Theme: How Your Garden Grows (Inspirational Day)

·Children are encouraged to be creative – bring a flower, color a flower, make one out of tissue paper – whatever they like.
·PTA organize lunch for teachers and staff. Volunteers needed to provide food dishes and for setup.

Thursday, May 8th, 2008 - Theme: You Are A Jewel (Royalty Day)

·Children are encouraged to do random acts of kindness for their teachers.
·PTA will provide the royal crowns. (Got crowns from BK Restaurant and decorated them with glitter.)

Friday, May 9th, 2008 - Theme: A Star In Our Eye’s (Treat Day)

·Children are encouraged to bring a small treat for their teacher with a note. (Example: Extra Gum – “Thanks for going the EXTRA mile”, Forget Me Not flower seed packet – “You are an unforgettable teacher”, a Hershey kiss – “To remind you that you are loved”, children artwork appreciating their teacher or a note just telling them how much of Treat is has been having them as their teacher.
·PTA Teacher recognition in the gym. Teacher door of fame stars put on classroom doors. (like the walk of fame but door of fame)

Also we need to remember the special teachers children see all year: Music, Band, Art, P.E., Reading, GT, ESOL, Librarian and Speech teachers. These teachers are invaluable to our school and also deserve our thanks.

Every young mind needs a spark to light the way to a brighter future through learning-and teachers are that spark. In 1984, National PTA established Teacher Appreciation Week-the first full week in May-to honor the dedicated men and women who lend their passion and skills to educating our children. I encourage you and your PTA to recognize all of the ways teachers contribute to the lives of children. During this special week, help National PTA and its nearly 6 million members show teachers the appreciation they so richly deserve. Teachers, in partnership with parents, truly make a difference.

What great ideas these are! I love the zoo theme! Our school is getting started on planning for the week but with soooo many ideas it's hard to choose. Anybody have any themes for the week with simple gifts each day culminating to a grand finale? We were thinking of a treasure theme; any ideas would be helpful and appreciated.
