We did a daily theme last year. I am going to change it a little for this year. We tried to make it easy for each child to do somthing and that didn't cost much or have to cost anything. Below is information we sent out in a flyer last year:
National Teacher Appreciation Week

·Children are encouraged to bring a piece of fruit to their teacher to give them a healthy start for the week.

Thursday, May 8th, 2008 - Theme: You Are A Jewel (Royalty Day)

Friday, May 9th, 2008 - Theme: A Star In Our Eye’s (Treat Day)
·Children are encouraged to bring a small treat for their teacher with a note. (Example: Extra Gum – “Thanks for going the EXTRA mileâ€, Forget Me Not flower seed packet – “You are an unforgettable teacherâ€, a Hershey kiss – “To remind you that you are lovedâ€, children artwork appreciating their teacher or a note just telling them how much of Treat is has been having them as their teacher.
·PTA Teacher recognition in the gym. Teacher door of fame stars put on classroom doors. (like the walk of fame but door of fame)
Also we need to remember the special teachers children see all year: Music, Band, Art, P.E., Reading, GT, ESOL, Librarian and Speech teachers. These teachers are invaluable to our school and also deserve our thanks.
Every young mind needs a spark to light the way to a brighter future through learning-and teachers are that spark. In 1984, National PTA established Teacher Appreciation Week-the first full week in May-to honor the dedicated men and women who lend their passion and skills to educating our children. I encourage you and your PTA to recognize all of the ways teachers contribute to the lives of children. During this special week, help National PTA and its nearly 6 million members show teachers the appreciation they so richly deserve. Teachers, in partnership with parents, truly make a difference.
