Another idea is an Amazing Race type event. Have different stations representing various areas of the world. The team, whether it is families or classmates, need to accomplish a task before getting the next clue/station area. For example, you could have two planks with ropes where the team must walk together around a cone. The can represent Norway and skiing. Have baseball for America or Cuba. Have soccer for Europe, etc. Another possibility is to see if a local martial arts dojan would be willing to take part and coordinate a station. Say Tae Kwon Do for Korea, or Judo for Japan, or Karate for China. Maybe each member of the team must learn how to perform a kick and then break a board before moving on.
I think about it and see if I can come up with more.
