Our school is public and we raise over $400.00 per student. We need the money in our state (CA), cause the state forgets to pay for music, art, pe, and supplies especially if your students already speak english..
However the key to private school success over public is two things.
1) parents at privates donate because they want the best, and they also want their chid "in" next year.
2) private schools have fund raising departments, everyone's email, and the support of the school to getting parent informed and involved.
In public schools we battle dinosaur districts, who still have no email systems, and places where if your principal is not a person who will say thank you and explain how important the extra dollars are, then it's challenging to spread the word.
Just keep using ptomanager-volunteer manager and get your parents to understand your need, and before you know it with positive thought and lots of good info, parents will donate. Positive thoughts, a few fun events, and a good explanation of need can make all the difference.
why not ask your principal, they should be aware of the latest research in this area!! or your teachers!! they are linked in to all the ed sites and get tons of info all the time. who knows if they read it, maybe you will find out!
And here's a direct link to an older (1994) 174-page compendium that has some of the basic research/findings we often quote (better grades, fewer discipline problems, etc.)
Come on guys, i have read all the points about how children whos parents are involved do much better in school, and other points, but i want to know the actual research, where can i find them, so that I can back up the statments with the actual studies and proof.
