This is my first year as PTO President and I was only at two meetings last year so I'm pretty much flying blind. I was told last year the average meeting had about 6 people, 4 were officers. My first meeting was last week...we had 20 (8 were teachers and we only have 12 teachers). Hope our next meeting is the same or better since we've gotten the Jr. High National Honor Society to babysit.
This week was my kickoff event...a Family Reading Night. I went the route of local celebrities, we had the fire chief dressed in gear, meteorologist from local TV station, school nurse in scrubs and school librarian. They all read books pertaining to them. We set it up in stations so they each read their story 4 times. Afterwards was cookies and punch, games and a book swap. I was really worried that the turnout would be low. We had about 80 kids and all but 3 teachers, I was very pleased. Especially since the weather that night was beautiful. Everything ran smoothly and the teachers are requesting we do it again in the spring. Thanks PTO Today for all of the great ideas!
Plus, our fundraiser ended on Tuesday. Last year our profit was less than $5000. A rough total at this point, we're at $6000 profit and orders are still coming in. So....our prinicipal will be getting duct taped to the gym wall by the students!
