We did one last year where we didn't collect money for the movie itself, but earned over $250 in the snack booth. All the foods stuffs were donated and we used our popcorn maker. We themed it a Drive-in movie and had the kids build their own 'cars' to watch the movie. A huge success and one everyone has asked about again and again. The gym was over-flowing with kids, cars and parents.
I was in charge of our first movie night last year and it was a Christmas movie night. Yes, you do have to get a permit but it wasn't outrageous. I think it was maybe $75 for a one-night event. On the PTOtoday website click on "programs" and then "School Family Nights" and you can order a how to kit on how to run a family movie night.
We had the kids wear Christmas pj's and we had tables set with sugar cookies and everything you need to decorate Christmas cookies. We served free popcorn and drinks and it was a huge success. We did not charge for anything but some groups need to.
Hello,
I was running the idea of a movie night by our school staff when I was informed that we need a permit or something to show movies such as Disney or other family movies. Is this the case and if so how do I go about getting this? I know of another school who has movie night, they charge 1.00 for the family and then sales popcorn and soda. I really could use some information on this.
