Was the Parent Involvement Coordinator a school position? If so, can your PTA volunteer coordinator help fill some of the gap?
In my mind, volunteer coordination (and parent involvement) is one of the most important functions of a parent group.
In our elementary, we had a PTO Volunteer Coordinator, a parent rep for each grade, and then a homeroom parent.
The Grade Rep was one of the homeroom parents, but she (or he) also served a key role communicating up and down the chain as to class needs for volunteers, special events, testing, etc.
The 2007-2008 school year will be the first that our school will be without a Parent Involvement Coordinator. She was the one who handled sooooo many things in our school, including getting volunteers involved in the school for daily things that the teachers just can't get to organizing, and she worked closely with our PTA on events. We are so worried that things will suffer this school year without her to organize volunteers for some wonderful programs. Our PTA was thinking that if we were able to get a homeroom parent or so for each room that they could help make sure things go on. I was wondering if you all could share with me the duties of your homeroom parents in your school.
