You could have a big tree with leaves with the children's names. A bucket of popcorn and use the pieces of popcrn and put the kids names in it or pictures, have an ocean with fish with kids names on it.
December - Christmas trees
January- Snowflakes
February- hearts
March - Shamrocks
April- umbrellas
May- flowers
June-Sunshines

I'm the PTO President for next year. Our school is prek-2nd. One of the things I'm responsible for is designing the bulletin board each month that displays the kids' birthdays. This is where I need different ideas. I have a few but am not crazy about some:
Space...hope your birthday is out of this world. The kids pictures on stars.
October...pumpkins, scarecrows, bats, etc.
A basket of birthdays...red apple for each child.
Big birthday cake with each child's name on a candle.
Flowers
I plan on taking each child's picture with a digital camera and putting their picture and birthdate.
