you never know where momo is coming from and what her experience has been..sadly, there is lots of incomptenence in the world of (underfunded)schoool administration these days. sometimes parents cant rely on the system

Exactly, Little Ms.... Thanks for getting the point and explaining it so succinctly. Time and place - the two most important criteria for getting your message across.

If anyone cares to objectively read the entire thread, they'll see that there is plenty of support for tispta and her concerns for the safety and well being of the children along with suggestions for the best way to help implement that change.

Remember.... at any time a principal and/or BOE can restrict or remove a parent group. Abuse of the resources can be the quickest way to bring that action upon the group. How does that help anyone? How can any one person decide that the hard work of many people over the years is worth risking? It shows a severe lack of respect, imho....

I suspect if Momof3 and tisptamom had posted on a "different" message board, the rhetoric would be dramatically different and extremely supportive of their "bucking the system" to get something done.

momo - Perhaps there's a bit of confusion on the original intent of this thread. It seems the general belief is that, while parents can and should be proactive on these issues, it isn't the role of a PTA/PTO to tackle them.

There are many ways for parents to effect change within their communities and I applaud their efforts. I even agree with you on some of your points. However, you cross the line with pesonal insults and attacks. Unnecessary and Unacceptable.

It's funny, really, that you come into a forum with women who are high ranking military officers, corporate executives, doctors, lawyers, and (yours truly) a crew chief of a winning drag racing team and you get the perception that we tell girls to "know their place..."

And, for the record, I am content to bake cookies and fundraise. Because without those efforts there are no funds to do all of the rest of the important work we do. Now, where's my apron? Chocolate Chip? Oatmeal Raisin? Ooo, no, Snickerdoodles......

I don't think any of us said don't inform parents of common issues or concerns I believe we all said don't use the PTO name as part of this process. You can advocate but unless you have that 110% backing you really have no right to use your school's pto voice, especially if your group is open to all parents. A leader can not speak for 100% of the parent body and that is what we are concerned about, advocating outside of the group is great but unless that is part of their mission then she needs to find different avenues to get her point across.

momofthreeboys--your postings speak to the type of leadership I suspect you pursue. One of self importance and independent action as "the only one that really cares". It is disrespectful to those of us who are also oriented on leadership and working with the administration to make positive impacts for our children.
These boards are meant to share perspectives. Yours would have been much more effective without the dramatics.
