Our school is connected to the Church. We do have a Catholic Services Appeal each year and everything over a certain $$ goes back to our local Church for repairs. I'll ask the priest if we can involve the school in this some how. I'll check out the book and on line article.
some churches have their own fundariansing/grant people for church improvements etc. if yours does, maybe they could add this to their grant requests/donation drives. i am assuming your school is on the same property as the church.
Try to get a copy of a book called "The Catholic Funding Guide" by FADICA (Foundations and Donors Interested in Catholic Activities). The address I have for them is 1350 Connecticut Avenue NW, #303, Washington, DC 20036-1701. The book lists foundations (by state) that will contribute to Catholic causes and institutions, as well as the types of things they will fund. You might be able to borrow a copy from your local diocesan central office. Good luck. It's not easy.
I too am at a private school and our PTO has been asked to fund the expense of new flooring. In order to remain affordable, tuition & fees at our school covers just the salaries & operating expenses. Fundraisers fund everything extracurricular. There's a fine line between charging so much that you have extra, but excluding many average families and limiting population, and charging enough to operate and have a stronger population.
In answer to your question, you might try and do a google search for Catholic School grants. I wish I had a better answer, since I too am in a similar position, but so far I've found it's research, research, research, connections, and luck!
I would think that a private school would pay for repairs through their budget from tuition. A PTO would not be responsible for contributions, although you could be used to staff a fundraiser that the school is having.
Making a positive difference one project at a time <img src=images/smilies/smile.gif>
Our school is in need of building repairs and our priest asked for help in finding grant money to help pay for repairs.
I'd like to help, but have no idea where to start. Any suggestions?
