I would ask the same as serendipity as we are a low income school. My second thought is there anyway around this, maybe not doing shirts and lunch, you could get ribbons real cheap at Oriental Trading. We have a fun day that is no cost, we dont do ribbons or shirts and the kids have a ball anyways. I would really worry about the ones that can't do it and the factor that it is taking part in the school day is another consideration, after school you could make that decision, seems though during the school day is sort of a mandatory day for all students...just my thought.
Well because this is an event that takes place during the school day you have to take into consideration what happens with the kids whose parents did not pay the $5? One can assume most parents will pay the $5 but if there are a handful of kids who have not been paid for will the PTO pay for them?
A Fun Day that would include T-shirts, lunch and other goodies for $5.00!! Sounds like a great deal to me. The only thing I would suggest is maybe is cosider the school and family population....do you live in an area where families can afford it? We do something similar end of year for our school, but we figure it into our budget at the begining of the year and its part of our dues and a portion of our fundraisers go to it as well so the PTO picks up the whole tab....however we do run other fun things for our students during the year that we do charge for like movie night, karoke and board game night etc.
But in my opinion it is in no way tacky!!
Is it tacky to charge each student $ 5.00 to help cover the costs of an end of the year Fun Day. We are planning a Survivor Theme Field Day. The $5.00 would help cover the costs of Survivor Themed T-shirts, dye for banadanas, ribbons and lunch. Is this acceptable or not? :
