have the principal be the figurehead until post filled. Its not the end of the world, as long as you have good officers willing to pick up the duties of the empty position til it gets filled.
Better to wait and get a motivated, eager pres (and have principal be the honorary pres for a while), than have a bad pres. forced into the spot becuase you were desperate to have it filled at any cost.
Check with teachers too. Maybe they could recomend a great room parent that you might not have thought of.
And I agree with Crewchief 3 months is tons of time someone will step up to the plate when it comes to cruch time.

Well, someone has to lead the group. So even if there's no official president, there are people still making decisions and a presiding officer at the meetings. If a president were to leave mid term, the vp would automatically assume the role unless or until the membership voted in a new president. If you had to start the school year without a president, I would hope the other officers and board members would step up and fill the gaps until a viable candidate was found. I don't think it's the end of the group but it certainly isn't an ideal situation.
Something like this could also cause the principal to step in and take the reigns or appoint someone else to run it. Losing control of your group like that could be the end of things as they may like it that way and not give it back to the parents.
I'd say you present your team with three choices:
1. Keep working hard to find a willing and capable candidate.
2. Start the school year without a president but keep the goal of finding one quikly.
3. Turn control of your group over to the administration.
Maybe once word gets around that it is a dire situation, someone will step up. Could it be that they think you'll stick around if nobody else shows up to do the job? There have certainly be less subtle tactics to hold onto a stellar president!

I was really wondening what happens to the PTO if no one steps into the role of President? Do we fold up, who takes on that responsibility? Can the PTO function without a president? Who takes on that responsibility? We have a meeting tonight to discuss this...Elections are 3 months away and it is looking scarry.
