I just made a batch of Rice Crispy treats with the yummy new ChocoVanilla Rice Crispies. Here's one for you along with a nice, tall glass of milk.
Now, about the meeting. First, remember that the State of the Union speech was tonight and many people probably stayed home to watch it. Second, I wonder if you might be going about the process a bit backwards. What has worked for me in the past was to designate a chairman. I'm assuming that's you. Then, I'd decide the key divisions and assign sub-committee chairmen. From there, I'd ask the sub-chairs to recruit volunteers for their portion of the work. I'd then schedule routine meetings for you and the sub-chairs only to discuss progress throughout the planning phases. The bottom line is that most people hate meetings. You might get 100 volunteers willing to do whatever tasks you ask to help pull off a successful Spring Festival but be lucky to get you and the four sub-committee chairs gathered up to meet regularly.
It sounds like you have the passion, vision and talent to lead a successful Spring Festival committee. That energy is what will get your team across the finish line. You, your 'one' meeting attendee and a few friends who are willing to be part of the core committee can pull this off if you stay positive! You can do this!
Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same."

How do you combat parent apathy?!
Tonight I am exasperated and depressed and just plain sad.
Tonight I held a meeting for parents interested in helping with our Spring Festival, the school's primary fundraiser. I sent notices home a few days in advance with the school's 475 students. How many parents do you think showed up? ... One.
I had intended to create task teams tonight to begin working on the various Festival responsibilities: Silent Auction, Promotion, Volunteers, Food & Beverage, Games. Well, it's impossible to create five TEAMS with ONE person.
Any suggestions, ideas, advice, comfort would be appreciated.
