If and when you are President I guarantee that you will be able to show compassion and understanding regarding your current officers. It is easy to be critical and not be in charge. Only when you "walk in a another's shoes" can you pass such judgement. I look forward to seeing your first post as President!
Dear Been there:
You say you have been on the opposite side of such a conflict:
* Have you had closed meetings that you did not inform all PTO members of?
*Have you placed an individual in a position and then later claimed you never did -- calling the individual a liar and crazy?
*Have you sent a PTO member back her membership dues and told her she is no longer in the PTO?
*Have you refused help from PTO members, just because they were "different" and did not do things in "your" way?
*Has your husband been the treasurer at the same time you were President creating a conflict of interest in the PTO checks and balances?
*Have you taken over other officer positions rather than finding a willing volunteer to work them?
I truly do know that being the President of any organization is a well skilled balancing act and it is far from being easy. But also isn't being president about working for the people who put you there and working with those individuals to achieve the best results? It has never been my intention to be "critical" of the president or vice president and I am sorry if that is the image you have gotten.
As I have stated in previous posts, I simply have a lot of questions about our PTO and its management. And any time I ask a question, an answer is never given. Have you as President refused to answer your members questions? such as how much money was raised with the fundraisers? How many members do we have in our PTO? Why don't we use the school PTO website as a means to list the upcoming PTO events?.... As a member, shouldn't I be able to ask such questions? As a parent who is concerned about her childrens school and its organizations shouldn't I be able to ask?
As I said, i do know how hard it is to be in a President position and I am not here to make that harder. That was not and is not my intention. But I have always been taught and I am teaching my children that it is good to ask questions, because that is how we can learn more and grow into stronger people.
Thank you very much for your opinion and feedback. I appreciate all sides because it enables me to see things more clearly. ~~~sincerely, justavolunteer.
