You won’t change this practice alone or soon and unfortunately you won’t change it without attending those noon meetings. Possibly if you start now you could develop enough support to adopt a change by next year.
From an unbiased perspective the advantages of an evening meeting far out weigh a noon meeting. But a free lunch goes along way to prejudice voting members.
BTW: What do they have served for lunch?
want2mom - you are right to feel slighted by this group. By having noon meetings they are basically telling working parents that their input doesn't matter. I am an at-home mom but it never occured to me to have meetings during the day. We always have them at 7pm so folks have time to get home, spend some time together, eat dinner and then come out for the meeting. Then I try to keep it to one hour or less so they're not out all night.
I think it's a copout to say that attendance is higher during the day. That may be true but at least by having them in the evening, everyone has the opportunity to attend.

I was very involved when my daughter was in pre-school and had planned to continue but it's not working out. After reading on this sight I'm finding that our school isn't the only one with a "click". The moms who are fortunate enough not to have to work have decide to hold our PTO meetings at 12 noon durring the day. I've expressed my concern that not only are teachers teaching and unable to attend but so are the majority of parents. I have been told that attendance is better at the noon meetings and therefore that's when they'll be held. I've spoken to several working parents (like myself) and we are all upset by this. We want to be involved and feel like we are not being allowed to. I've even expressed this to the principal when I got nowhere with the PTO president and he said that he would express my concern at the next meeting since I cannot be there but he also stated attendance was better at the noon meetings. Am I wrong in thinking these meetings should be held in the evenings? I think all parents should have the opportunity to attend and if the choose not to then that's another issue. Just wanted to get some feed back. Thanks so much!
