This year I did a "Gratitude Tree" with a little envelope of "leaves" (in different colors of green paper) at the bottom of the tree trunk. Parents or students wrote messages then taped them to the tree and soon it was filled with things like "I love music class" or "thank you for standing in the heat and cold to watch our children play"... anything they want. And FYI: I normally fill out a few to get it going. The teachers loved it!
I love the money idea and the fact that you include the homeroom moms in this event-- We do not have homeroom moms, but we have roomparents that run the holiday parties-- this would be a great way to end their year with the teacher--
I'm going to have to promote this idea at our next meeting.
At our school we do Teacher Appreciation Doors, for each of our classrooms. The homeroom Mom, or another Mother in the class decorates the door. It has turned into a silly little contest too:)
One year, for my second grade teacher I took the little "fake" dollar bills and put pictures of the students in the middle of them and said "You are worth MILLIONS to us" with the teachers name.
Another year a Mother did a whole Starbuck's theme on a door.
I did flowers last year with pictures of the students on it.
I LOVE your idea. I'm also gearing up for the year (I do a little someithing every month) and love the idea of something so personalized and special being part of that week. This would also be a great momento to go into the teachers lounge after appreciation week is over
An idea for a theme could be handprints with the "thought" or "pic" in the palm.

I had a thought about making a Teacher Appreciation bulletin board for Teacher Appreciation week. I know you are all probably thinking, ugh, a little early - but my mind is always going! This is my thought - I was thinking of sending home an announcement looking for answers to questions, such as: what is your favorite teacher memory, or how did a teacher make you feel special, what is your favorite thing a teacher does, your favorite funny teacher moment, or look for parents to send in copies of photos with that special teacher. Also, I was thinking of parents to send in their thoughts about them too.
I am looking for a theme to go with this bulletin board too. Not sure of that yet, but I am sure something will come to me soon.
Has anyone done something like this and would like to share your experiences/ideas/results?
