at our school we have two different types of welcome packets, one for the kids and one for the parents. the one for the kids has the school t-shirt in it along with coupons to meet the principal, secretary, and custodian. it also has hugs and kisses candy with a poem in the bag and litatiture with pto info in it to sign up.
the parents packet has a welcome letter, bylaws, parent contact sheet, "do's" of a committee, committee lists, etc. this is the first year for this so i'm hoping it's going to work out fine.
I love the "Back to School" packets and so do our parents. We buy the folders that have the prongs in them--very inexpensive if you can get them in July from Staples--this year we payed $.01 for 15 folders-we needed about 120. We hand them out every year at our Back to School picnic.
In our packets we include: in the front pocket is a copy of our by-laws and a copy of a volunteer form that the parents fill out and send into school. Then in the pronged part is our Welcome letter which has names and numbers of the officers and an overview of our Parent group, next is a kind of calendar that shows all of our activities for the year, next is the info about our biggest fundraiser--our auction, then is the summary of our account from our Treasurer and then a summary of our commitments for the year and then in the back pocket we have order forms for spirit wear--which is required for gym class-- and spirit items.
This helps us give our parents the information they need at the beginning of the year and eleviates the problem of begging for help at the very first meeting. Hope this helps!
In our PTO welcome packets we include a page introducing the years officers, their phone numbers and emails. Then there is a membership/volunteer form--we list activities that volunteers are needed for. We have a page about our market day program, box tops and kroger cards(fundraisers that last all year) these pages include chairpersons names and phone numbers. Our packet this year was 6 pages.
Does anyone have any ideas for a Welcome Back folder or packet? We have a lot of new students that are coming to our school because of an overflow at the other elementary schools in our area. I am new to the PTO board this year and need as many ideas as possible.
