4thekidz, I wish you the best of luck! I am in the same boat you are, I had been VP until 2 days ago when the president and sec. resigned. I had public speaking and don't really know what to say. I'm going to introduce myself and let people know that we are welcoming everyone and would love their participation other than that I'm done!!! Good luck, let me know how it goes!

Welcome to the boards 4mykidz! Don't worry. You're going to be great!!

Public speaking is terrifying for many people. I used to be scared to death. The good news is that the more you speak publicly, the easier it gets.

If you're pretty new at it, I'd suggest having your VP up there with you and perhaps your treasurer and secretary too. This gives you an opportunity to introduce them and gives them a chance to help you out if you need it.

Write up a basic outline in large print to have on the podium so you can reference it from time to time.

Print up fliers with details about the contest. Folks will be busy looking at that and not staring so much at you.

What type of fundraiser is it? Do you have an "opt out" choice for parents who would rather just give money?

I like reward incentives but prefer to find a way to reward the whole school rather than individual classes or students. A school wide reward makes everyone feel like they can contribute and make a difference and avoids the, 'why bother? Your class probably won't win anyway.' mentality.

Some more info about the fundraiser, reward, school size/grade range would help too. Even knowing your mascot or school motto would get the creative juices flowing.

I am stressing out completely!!! I do not like to give speaches at all and almost did not agree to me President for that reason alone. I have to write and present a speech next week. Any help would be great. I received an email with a few tips on the speech, but I need more. Our PTO is talking about having a contest for parent participation at our next meeting. I do not know what to offer to that class, any help there would be great. We are a school of severe budget cuts and fundraising is a must. I would love to find a way to get more people interested, not the turn them off. Please help!!!!
