Hello everyone.
I was President of our board this past year and what we did we had a meeting that involved all the committee chairs, board members and anyone else that wanted to attend. We went over every event and we made changes to them, got rid of some added new ones. It was a great night because we got so many great ideas. It went smoothly because we went over each event and as long as the meeting is run with some small time frame for each event we were done in a couple of hours. Hope this helps.
Have a brain storming session...a big one where everyone is invited and make sure your ideas get "pitched". We did this our first PTO meeting and had everyone rotate through 5 stations with ideas for "teacher appreciation", student morale, holiday events, etc and surprisingly, we weren't the only ones with the same ideas. If we were the only ones, and everyone liked the idea, then we had buy in for our support structure!!!....d
Our board is totally new this year (me being Pres). There are many things that other schools are doing that would be good ideas just for "change" at our school. I don't want the teachers/families thinking we think things weren't done right before if I/we bring up new ideas. How do you go about pitching new ideas without making it seem like you're being pushy?
