Getting our PTO PRESIDENT motivated

18 years 4 months ago #115800 by writermom
I don't know that you can motivate someone like that. If she was content to let you do it all last year, maybe she will be this year too. Offer to set up/ run whatever planning meetings you want. Just tell her you feel better when you have plans (I am the same way)and offer to do the work. Hopefully she will take you up on it. If not, maybe you can talk one on one with her and explain that planning needs to be done in order to accomplish everything you guys did last year. Also talk with her about what roles and duties you each will have this year, since your titles are different. And just because your titles ARE different, doesnt necessarily mean you have to take a back seat this year, as long as you both agree on what role you will take this year.Good luck!

It may not be that your PTO Pres. is unmotivated, but maybe she has a lot going on at home/work whatever. Or maybe you two just work at different paces. If you are concerned that you all need to get some planning done, why not call her and ask if she'd like you to help set up a meeting? Make sure you bring whatever notes you have and go from there. If it's just the officers or committee chairs, you could make it really informal at someone's house and ask everyone to bring a dish to share.

How do you get your PTO Pres. motivated to do some thing? She is the kind of person that has her hand in EVERYTHING but gets nothing done. We had planned before the end of school to have meetings in the summer to do some planning for this comming year and I have not even had a phone call so far. I would like to get some new things going for this year that require planning before school starts Aug. 9th. I saw her out 3 weeks ago and mentioned having a meeting and she said she would call those involved and do it the next week. I'm still waiting. We served as Co-Presidents last year and I organized every event, sent out the notices and did the Newsletter etc., etc, the list goes on and I have been trying to think what she did do! Now I am V. Pres. and she is President due to following our By-Laws, the co-presidency was dreamed up by past officers. I don't want to overstep my bounds since she is the Pres. but I getting so frustrated that we are not doing any thing, I like to plan ahead.
