Need Help with Open House

We also do something gitchy that lets the kids particpate. This year we are drawing a big path to hang on the wall and when a parent joins the PTO the child will get to ring a bell and hang a "print" on the path in their grade level. Last year we used "scoops" in an ice cream cone. When the bell rings we all hoop and holler like it was bennigans restaurant or something and it draws attention. We also have a volunteer video that we made last year we're playing, our regular PTO Shout Out table on what we've done, membership forms, spirit wear, something to get everyone involved!!!
I always like to let the lunch ticket line fill up and then go in and hand out PTO information. After a few more minutes I tell them that they can just send a check in the first day of school for the lunches and tell them where the pto sign up table is.
Another different thing we're doing this year is manilla folders opened for each committee. On one side is a committee description and on the other a piece of paper for folks to sign up. That way we can zerox the sign up for computerizing purposes later but we can literally hand the committee chair the folder with the persons name, number and email. Got that idea from another PTO in the area.

We'll be having Munchkins from Dunkin Donuts with
punch as a refreshment, a table with sign up sheets for each event we have through out the year.
I would like to incorporate some kind of fun for the kids like a Guessing jar or a scavenger hunt.
Any ideas or scavenger hunt lists that you could forward would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

We usually do a back to school picnic the Sunday before school starts! It has a great turnout. We have packets for all the families that has our information for the year, signup sheets, fundraisers, programs, what we sponsor, what our commitments are, etc and they love it! We try and give them the info before our first meeting!
Keep it simple, guessing jars are always a big hit!

We have a Parents Night not an Open House so just the parents come to meet the teacher and get all their info.
This is what we do though we have a table for membership and brochures and a sign from our PTO, we have desserts that are donated from parents in the cafeteria and coffee from the PTO.
This year to promote BOX TOPS we have $25.00 worth of Box tops products for a raffle.

I like the T shirt idea someone mentioned last year we didnt have any. But we all have them this year to wear.

One thing you want to be sure to have on your PTO table is some kind of presentation that touts what you have done for the school over the last year. We made a display in the cases by the entry that had signs and photos that detailed what our funds went for and events that we held. That can really grab people's attention and make them realize what an involved and fantastic group you have. Some parents may not even realize some of things that your group sponsors/pays for in your school.

Our Open House is held before school starts so it's a great opportunity to catch up with people you haven't seen all summer. We have trouble getting people out of the building, because they are enjoying talking with each other so much they lose track of time!!

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.
