Teacher Appreciation went well...BUT

18 years 5 months ago #115314 by my3strongtikes
The sad thing was they weren't so called leftovers they were FULL trays of food that didn't even get touched because we had so much.
Sometimes we send out a reply letter and get what 2 people for this we had over 50 side dishes PLUS all the desserts parents sent in.

I guess there will always be one complainer, but the teachers loved it. They even took out a page thanking all the parents in our newsletter. It was signed by all the teachers. That was a big enough thank you for me.

Next time offer her a piece of cake....you know let them eat cake.....

you know isn't there always that one person though. But like Crew talked about I either have too much or run out completely and THEN people are so not undestanding at all!

again...let her eat cake.

I live in a pretty small town but right across the river from a bigger city. When we have a lot of leftover food, we call their soup kitchen. Depending on their schedule we either deliver it to them or they come and pick it up.

I probably wouldn't send anything to another school if it was clearly a leftover. But I might try to find a way to replate things so it was fresh looking.

The trouble with food donated by volunteers is that you always have to ask for more than you think you'll need to allow for folks who forget or don't make as much as you might expect. And then you have the select few who say, "Hey, I heard you needed soup for conference days so I made a pot of my famous ......." And then they proudly display 10 gallons of it!!!!

my3strongtykes - if you're in a position to have to make a decision, do what you think is right. It seems no matter what, there are a few who will grumble but that's ok.

We had tons of food and LOTS of leftovers as well. We keeps most of them and left them for the teachers to eat the next day. But we DID throw alot of stuff away!!! We had talked about sending it to the other schools and the parents all said that they thought it was a bad idea cause THEY wouldn't want to eat some other schools leftovers. I PERSONALLY wouldn't be offended but i was out voted!!

my3: any kid in your school would probably agree you did the absolute RIGHT thing, after all:

Grown-ups never understand anything for themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.

We had a tremendous turn out for all our donations of food for our Luncheon they were majorly impressed. We had so much food that we gave the teachers leftovers in their lounge fridge and the PTO fridge.
We had so much that I told our Secreatary who is officer at another school in our District to take it to their Luncheon the next day. I guess a parent seen this and was offended that we sent it to another school. So I got a call from the principal saying not to do this during school hours because it bothered the parent that we took it to another one of our schools.

I just couldnt waste the food and there was no way the teachers were going to eat all of it. I guess you can't please everyone.

Was I wrong I thought I did the right thing.
