NO ONE WANTS THE JOB

We have the details spelled out too, Mykidsmom. Its just that no one seems interested. At the beginning of next year the school will keep asking parents to come on board until hopefully someone does. I've known it to take 3 sometimes 4 months into the school year for someone to step in. The description for every board title in in big letters for everyone to read and still nothing. All we can do is hope someone steps up. You must have a child in the school to sit on the board.

Is it no one has time or no one knows exactly what these volunteer jobs entitle?

I'm learning it is often a little of both. No one wants the PTO to dispan but like in the little red hen story, no one wants to help.

I have spelled it out- what I mean is I have listed in the newsletter what the job entales (duties) how much time is involved ie the treasurer could really honestly need an hour a week or a month to balance the book and pay bills. The Secretary is a little more intense so I would honestly say six hours+ a month.

I was told last night I have been the best President as I have so much time to give to the position and in the next conversation my secretary asks me when am I going to learn to delegate (I told her as soon as I learn how to spell it!!). Two very different veiws and one is very nice and the other is the truth.

My point (oh stop it I do have one!) is it is SO important that it is known that the President does not do everything and this is a team effort.

no really...at least that's what I'm reminded ;)

We were having this problem but we got someone on our board to just start making phone calls. Her kids will be moving up to the junior high in the fall and she's just trying to keep PTO running next year. She has been extremely successful so far by calling people personally.

We have not had many parents at our meetings this year and our bylaws state that you must have attended 4 meetings in order to run for office. Anyone who doesn't meet this requirement must be approved by the Board and Principal. Most of our nominees don't fit the requirement because we tried to look outside the box this year.

I guess we won't really know how well this worked until this time next year. But I'm excited about the possibilities.
