One of the things we give the incoming K's are sunflower seeds. Attached is a message that tells them to plant them and watch them grow. When the sunflower is about as tall as they are it will be time to start Kindergarten. My boys loved watching it and "grew" with excitement, as it grew, about upcoming K.
Our kindergarten registration is in two weeks, and we have a back to school event sponsored by the school right before school starts. As pres for next year, my focus is parental involvement (to give you an idea how bad it is, one person volunteered to help with the book fair this year. PTO always has a table at the back to school event, but I'm wondering if we should have something set up at kindergarten registration as well. I'm planning to put info in their registration packets, but maybe being there in person would be a better idea?
check out the Boo hoo yahoo event for the first day of school! It was so much fun.
Make sure to drum up membership at the registration. I used a welcome packet from the PTO and had a table set up. It was great!
I will never forget how excited my (now fifteen) daughter was when she...she, got a postcard from the teacher inviting her to the ice cream social and first day of school. Details and such of the social are....I have no idea what happened there, I was at the hospital with our new baby boy (yeah the day before school started!) but I can tell you she was just the happiest little girl in the world!!!
We do an Ice Cream social a few nights before they start school. Our Kindergarten teachers have a "Meet & Greet" on a night just for the little ones
They tour the classroom and see where stuff is, then they come to the cafeteria and make their own sundaes. We have a blast & get to know some kids so when we see them in the hall the first week we always wave or say "hi" to them.
We also invite Mom, Dad, Brothers & Sisters to join in.
I'm looking for some fun ideas to help welcome the new kindergartners during K-registration. I want to do something special just for them! Any ideas for cute little messages with candy or some fun little toy, etc? Thanks!!!
