Thanks for that info. I just looked at that site and I think this would be perfect for our school next year. We've gotten to where we don't have many volunteers at all. I always tell people that I don't mind if you volunteer through PTO or not, as long as you volunteer. But we've just lost volunteers in general. I'm proposing this to the principal on Friday for next year. This was her first year and she seems to be supportive of PTO and parent volunteers in general, so hopefully she'll go for this.
We tried this program at our school for the last two years and just voted to discontinue it for next year. It is easy to do, doesn't cost much money, but didn't give us a big increase in the number of volunteers that we were hoping for. We did everything you are supposed to do - sent out all the materials, played it up big in the newsletter and emails, held drawings for prizes and even had our "wall of fame" for anyone who turned in their three for me card. We found it was just the same volunteers that we always get.
I would suggest you try it in the fall and see what happens at your school. We just have a really tough situation with lots of working parents (and non-working parents) who don't seem to want to volunteer.
I was just hunting for PTO stuff on the net and came across this. Has anyone seen this or is there any groups out there that are apart of this? There were alot of interesting ideas but i don't know if its something that our group would want to do.
