Our district went through this about 10 years ago. We had one building for K-1 and another for 2-5. They changed to K-3 with 4 & 5 on their own. As with any change, tempers flared and passions ran high but 10 years later, all is well. People get used to it and all survive. BUT we are now faced with such deep budget cuts, partially due to decreased student enrollment, that the BOE is considering closing that 4-5 school and merging with what is now preK-3. It will be tight, and again, tempers will flare, etc, but in the end, we'll survive and our kids will learn and all will be fine.
I posted this in another area, and I'm really needing good/bad opionions of this. I'm trying to do some research to show to others about the pros/cons of this situation. Thanks for your help!
BOE is proposing splitting K-3 from two schools into one, and 4-5th from two schools into a seperate school. Three years from now, I would have three kids at three different schools.
Does anyone have any experience with such a split? Pros/cons welcome. Of course parents are not happy, including myself...I would like other's opinions as well Besides teacher/staff moves and everything else, is there anything to be gained by this?
